若手アカデミー委員会とは / About Young Academy of Japan

日本学術会議若手アカデミー委員会は、日本学術会議内に設置されている、30～45歳代を中心とする若手研究者による組織です。
日本学術会議は「科学に関する重要事項を審議し、その実現を図ること」および「科学に関する研究の連絡を図り、その能率を向上させること」を職務としています。しかし、その構成員は50～60歳代が中心となっており、次世代を担う若手科学者の声は必ずしも反映されていませんでした。若手の立場から、いまある問題に対して智慧を絞り、発言し、活動することは、よりよい日本の未来に必須であると考えます。
1年半にわたる準備期間を経て、2011年11月に新しくスタートした若手アカデミー委員会は社会に対する活動と、学術界に対する活動を展開します。社会に対する活動は、若手科学者の視点を活かした提言活動、産業界、行政、NPOとの連携、科学コミュニケーションの推進、Global Young Academy の活動への参画などです。一方で学術界に対する活動とは、主に若手科学者の意見収集と、それを踏まえた当事者の立場からの問題提起、学協会等の若手科学者団体や異なった諸分野の若手科学者間の交流とその機会の提供、各国若手アカデミーとの連携などです。上記のように、国内だけでなく、国際的な問題にも取り組んで国際的な素養を培っていきます。
若手アカデミー委員会は、未来の日本の学術、ひいては日本のため、活発な活動を行っていきます。

Young Academy of Japan is a committee established within the Science Council of Japan, consisting of young scientists broadly ranging from 30 to 45 years of age.
The Science Council of Japan has two main functions: (1) to investigate, and help to resolve, important scientific issues; (2) to foster coordination between distinct scientific research areas toward increased productivity. Since the Science Council of Japan is composed mainly of members whose ages range in the fifties and sixties, the Council does not necessarily reflect the voices of young scientists, who are the bearers of the future of Japan.
Clearly, it is vital to the future of Japan that the younger generation of scientists be engaged in tackling current problems, speaking out, and taking action. Therefore, after 18 months of planning and preparation, Young Academy of Japan was launched to conduct, primarily, two kinds of activities: social and scientific.
Our social activities include proposing activities to be initiated by young scientists, enhancing industry, government, and NPO collaboration, promoting science communications, and participating in the Global Young Academy. Meanwhile, scientific activities include gathering the opinions of young scientists, facilitating presentations on important issues by young scientists, expanding interdisciplinary and other exchanges among young scientists, and providing opportunities to exchange and form connections with members of young academy associations worldwide. Moreover, Young Academy of Japan will address both domestic and international issues, while cultivating and encouraging international achievements by young scientists.
Young Academy of Japan will be very active in shaping the future of Japanese science, and the future of Japan more generally.
